Kimberley Aboriginal Rangers have been recognised for their contributions and dedications to the ranger program this year at an end of year awards ceremony.

After a lifetime of advocacy for our people, Yawuru man and former KLC Director Senator Patrick Dodson has announced his retirement from federal politics.

The Kimberley Indigenous Saltwater Advisory Group (ISWAG) held their annual Saltwater Country Management forum in Broome at the start of November. Over 80 ISWAG members and marine scientists attended the three-day forum with the aim of sharing knowledge and increasing the capacity to manage, protect and work on Kimberley sea country.

More than 80 Traditional Owners from 10 Traditional Owner groups across the Kimberley have gathered in Fitzroy Crossing to discuss the future of the Martuwarra Fitzroy River at an event hosted by the Kimberley Land Council and the Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council.

The Kimberley Land Council (KLC) is pleased to announce that the organisation has been re-recognised as the native title representative body (NTRB) for the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

In June, the KLC and Aarnja took the discussion about the Voice referendum to some of the most remote towns in Australia.

What we heard from these towns was an overwhelming desire for Australia to say YES. 

On 30 March 2023 the House of Representatives and the Senate both agreed to the establishment of the Joint Select Committee on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum.

Last week, on the day Peter Dutton stood up in Parliament House and announced the Liberal Party would campaign for a No vote in the referendum on constitutional recognition, I was standing alongside Kimberley community leaders who had travelled from far and wide to meet on Yawuru country in Broome.
